The sun just clearing the water at El Zonte, with the headland in shadow and the round beach stones catching the first light in the foreground. I woke before dawn at the Punta El Zonte hostel, where the river meets the beach, and painted this back in my Seattle studio from the photos I took that morning. The tropical air makes the light especially luminous. Watercolor pastel, 36 × 48 in.
