This is the view from the Punta El Zonte hostel, where I stayed on the corner of the river that runs through town and the beach the surfers use. I woke before dawn, sat and meditated, and watched the sunrise and the surfers paddling out through the waves. The beach is all big round stones, and they tumble and rumble as each wave hits. The tropical air makes the light especially luminous. I painted it in my Seattle studio, from the photos I took that morning.
